There is a little sadness settling over our house tonight. We have just returned from the Crowson's house and saying goodbye to the Bunners. What a bittersweet moment it is. The last two weeks have been wonderful, having Frank and Jenna and the kids back with us in Tabligbo. It seemed to me as if they had just been on a really long furlough. It is amazing how there are some people in life that you can just pick right up and carry on your relationship, no matter how much time has lapsed. The first week, they stayed at our house and the kids were out of school, so they got to play together all day every day. It was amazing, too that their relationships just continued on.We have had lots of time to relive the past and dream about the future. We spent late nights playing cards, watching movies and laughing . . . there was lots of laughing. We revisited an old tradition on a Monday off at China Town and the Sarakawa pool.
Today, we enjoyed a "team meeting", complete with snacks. Frank and Jenna shared with us their feelings of having made this trip back. We enjoyed an African buffet (brought in by Yawo) of veyi and rice, koliko, and Jenna's favorite kom (fermented corn meal mush). When the kids came in from school, we celebrated Aaron's belated birthday with banana splits and games. After another meal together, the evening was climaxed by a time of singing.
As we said goodbye, it felt strangely like they are only going on a furlough again. Not a bad plan - 2 weeks on the field, 2 years furlong.
Thanks Frank, Jenna, Aaron, Josh and Corrie for coming. God-willing, we'll be together again soon!

Louise,
I am so glad that you guys had such a good visit. I know that the time together was precious. You are right -- friendships that can pick up right where they left off are special and something to thank God for. May God bless your hearts with joy for the time you got to spend together!
ps. I bet Jenna was about the ONLY one eating the kom!
Wish I could have been there for the planning/dreaming conversations. Or any others for that matter... sigh. Some day we'll all be together again.
I am so jealous -- and so glad that ya'll were able to have such a good time. We look forward to "picking up" with you again some day soon. Oh, and Jonathan would love to have some kom. Maureen did make fufu with groundnut soup using store-bought powder one night and the boys loved it. (For me it was like eating instant mash potatoes--better than nothing but not the real thing.)
I'm so glad you are blogging. I will look forward to reading more of your thoughts...
So glad you have all enjoyed a great two week reunion...what a gift these special relationships are.
Blessings!
Louise,
Just wanted ya'll to know we are thinking about you. We are getting ready to go to deer camp next week and I always especially miss your family at this time. I enjoy reading your updates. BTW, that post DID NOT make me even want to eat Kom or wonder what it tasted like. I think I'll just have some sour buttermilk instead.
Love you all,
Malcolm
I can't believe I've waited this long to check your blog. Thank you so much for writing your loving thoughts about our visit.
There's so much I'm still turning over in my brain, and I know I'll be enjoying our visit for months to come.
Thank you for being such a precious friend.
